Erromeriak
Kepa Junkera
In the project Erromeriak, Kepa brings together more than 40 female tambourine players from the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias, Galicia, León, Valladolid and Portugal, who join him in a deeply personal tribute to this instrument.
This first album of his new artistic phase features eight previously unreleased tracks he had been working on in his studio shortly before suffering the stroke that forced him away from the stage in 2018. It is completed by seven additional recordings especially meaningful to him and specifically arranged for this project.
He has also collaborated with bertsolari Koldo Gezuraga Seijido on the lyrics in some of the tracks, alongside improvisers Yeray Rodríguez and Miguel Cadavieco.
Following his return with the project Berpiztu, Kepa continues creating and challenges himself once again to surprise his audience, delivering an emotionally charged album marked by his unmistakable personal signature.
This work is a profound tribute to his mother, his aitite (grandfather), and all the female tambourine players who passed this legacy on to him.

Peoples are brought together by many things: seas, roads… and tambourines as well. This simple yet complex instrument, filled with both strength and tenderness, is the result of an ancestral and vital necessity. Its sound brings me closer to my ancestors, to my grandfather, to my mother… sincere and deeply felt magic. This work is a profound acknowledgement to all those women who passed this legacy on to us. May they continue moving through many places around the world for a long time to come.
